In the battle against the virus, we have seen people from all over the country ascend to battle against the epidemic. And many optoelectronic technologies such as infrared, 5G, robots, drones, AI, etc. are always active in the front line of epidemic resistance. We sorted out the very helpful technologies that have demonstrated their skills in the epidemic situation. Again, in optoelectronics technologies we can trust.

Infrared

We all know that any object above absolute zero (-273 ° C) will emit infrared radiation in nature, and a medical infrared camera can passively receive infrared radiation emitted by an object to transform it into a thermal image. The different colors on the thermal image represent different temperatures of measured objects.

At the time of national prevention of the epidemic, the return journey to the Spring Festival also ushered in a peak. Most airports, stations, hospitals, and other densely populated areas have installed professional medical infrared cameras for human body temperature measurement.

Infrared temperature detectors and supporting parts and components has been included in as national supported production and transportation of epidemic prevention and control project

as The State Council required. Major domestic manufacturers of infrared thermometers started emergency resumption in the short term to work overtime.

Chances: materials, components for IR detection is in great demand in China.

These CIOE exhibitors are producing IR temperature detectors and you’ll meet them at CIOE 2020 - Infrared Applications Expo:

5G

5G technology is essentially a communication support technology. On the basis of 2G / 3G / 4G, it provides low-latency and high-speed communication support for epidemic. In the construction of Huoshenshan and Leishenshan Hospital, 5G has become the key deployment of the three major operators.

On the evening of January 23, China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom Wuhan Branch quickly started the construction of wireless network 4G and 5G coverage at Huoshenshan Hospital. At the same time, Huawei's Hubei Spring Festival outbreak protection project team arranged about 150 people for protection. From the adjusting of 5G base stations, the entire construction process from network planning, surveying, design and construction, to fiber laying, erecting base stations, commissioning is completed within 3 days.

At the same time, 5G will make an important contribution to the fight against the epidemic and it will continue to assist greatly to medical treatment and national emergency response.

·    Telemedicine

Through the promotion of 5G technology, medical experts in Beijing and Wuhan started a remote case discussion on the outbreak control on the morning of February 8. This is the first 5G remote seminar conducted by a domestic medical team since the outbreak.

During the Beijing-Wuhan teleconsultation, experts discussed and analyzed the cases of two patients. It is worth congratulating that the two patients have recovered after the successful treatment of the Beijing medical team. At the end of the discussion, medical experts from Beijing and Wuhan agreed that patients need to be isolated for about 14 days after recovery.

·    Health monitoring

Although the "city lockdown" measures have been adopted in areas with severe epidemics, crowds are unavoidable in public areas and communities in the city, so temperature measurement has become a scene to be faced at the door overnight. China Unicom launched a 5G + thermal imaging human body temperature measurement information platform. With the help of 5G transmission technology, the platform can transmit video and corresponding data to a large screen or cloud platform for data recording and monitoring in real time. The advantage of this solution is that it is easy to deploy, non-contact, and fast. Through cloud big data management, repeated detection is reduced in a certain period. Once a mass infection event occurs, it can be traced. China Unicom's 5G + thermal imaging human body temperature measurement solution is being widely used in various provinces across the country in subways, railway stations, hospitals, schools, governments, enterprises, commercial bodies, stores, dormitories and other scenarios.

·    Telecommuting

High-definition video conferences not only play a very important role in the collaborative work of fighting the epidemic, but also play a more important role in the remote office of government and enterprises. The current high-definition video conferences are generally fiber-optic fixed communication and 5G mobile communication mixed meetings, professional conference room equipment + 5G CPE, and personal 5G mobile phones / 5G computers / 5G PAD mixed meetings. In the fight against the epidemic, many video conferences are required to be held at any time. Participants are in the quarantine area and outside the quarantine area, some are in government office areas, and some are temporary hospitals. Rapid deployment has played a huge role.

Robots
In order to minimize the risk of infection, it is a very good idea to invest in intelligent robots to replace some manpower in the front-line work.

·      Diagnosis

Intelligent diagnosis and treatment robots have played a significant role in the diagnosis and treatment of the first new type of COVID-19 in the United States. The doctor sits outside the patient room window and operates the robot. The robot is equipped with a camera, microphone and stethoscope.

·    Disinfection and Medicine Delivery

Some hospitals have introduced sterilization logistics robots to complete hospital fever clinics, isolation wards, infectious disease departments and ICU supplies, medicine distribution and disinfection.

The Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital introduced domestic delivery robots to deliver medicines. The Shanghai Children's Medical Center conducted bedside consultations and remote rounds of visits to suspected children through questioning robots. Intelligent food delivery robots have been used in centralized medical observation points in some areas.

·      Pharyngeal Swab Test

The diagnosis of COVID-19 requires throat swabs for nucleic acid testing. Each medical staff member is faced with hundreds of thousands of fever patients each day. Medical staff members work in such a scenario and face a huge risk of infection.

To lower the risk of infection of medical staff, SIASUN Robot and the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences have jointly developed a compound robot for the detection of throat swabs, which is expected to solve the risk of infection of medical staff.

According to reports, this Robot consists of a mobile robot, a six-axis collaborative robot, a snake-shaped robot arm, and a throat specimen collection device. Precise control allows frontline medical staff to complete the collection of throat swabs without touching the patient, to achieve unmanned operation of the throat swab collection, and effectively protect the safety of medical staff.

·      Epidemic Situation Adjustment

In addition, robots can also provide support in areas such as epidemic adjustment and epidemic presentation. For example, the intelligent epidemic robot launched by Alibaba Dharma Institute in 5 days. With the help of speech recognition, semantic understanding, natural speech synthesis and other technologies, the robot can accurately understand human language, obtain information from the intelligent knowledge base, and feed it back to callers. The caller can have multiple rounds of dialogue, and some front-line manpower is released.

During the epidemic, AISPEACH provided free artificial intelligence services to relevant government departments, medical institutions, and public welfare organizations throughout the country. The epidemic prevention and control robots introduced can replace community manpower and actively make calls to residents of many jurisdictions to investigate recent whereabouts and find personnel. Exchanges, strengthen the health monitoring and follow-up guarantee of key personnel.

The front-line disinfection, dressing, transportation, face-to-face interviews of these dangers can be used to replace artificial robots.

Drones

·      Patrol monitoring

Drones patrol monitoring can not only avoid cross-infection between people, but also the scope of monitoring is wider and more efficient.

·      Remote Temperature Measurement

Of course, drones can do more than just aerial inspections.

COVID-19 infected patients are usually accompanied by fever symptoms, measuring body temperature has become an important epidemic prevention and control measure.

However, the epidemic is severe, and some vigilant residents are reluctant to have contact with others. Some residents are afraid of the temperature of home visits because of fear of secondary infection.

A community in Yichun city uses a drone to take the temperature of residents. Using a drone with an infrared thermal imaging lens to measure body temperature from an airspace, the measurement error within 1 meter is only 1%!

·      Regional Disinfection

Like the drone in the picture below, the agent will be atomized into smaller droplets for spraying at room temperature, covering 500 to 1000 square meters per minute, and it can complete the workload of 6 people a day in one hour.

·    Materials Delivery

Drones also undertake the work of delivering materials without contact. A resident of a village in Shandong was isolated after returning home from Wuhan. In order to reduce personnel contact, village cadres used drones to transport them with essential supplies for daily life.

The delivery method is very simple. Drive the drone to the roof and ask their family to pick it up on the roof.

You can also hang a mask under the drone in advance and let them get one if they encounter a citizen without a mask.

·      Unmanned Vehicle Logistics

In vast outdoor areas, such as logistics transportation, unmanned vehicles can show their skills.

It is understood that on February 6, after the preliminary map survey and the approval of relevant departments, JD's intelligent distribution unmanned vehicles were also put into use in the Wuhan epidemic area, responsible for the medical material distribution from JD Wuhan Renhe Station to Wuhan Ninth Hospital, which is the designated hospital for treating COVID-19 Wuhan and is the core area of the outbreak in Wuhan.

JD Intelligent Delivery

In addition, some other low-speed unmanned teams have also joined the "anti-epidemic" army.

The unmanned distribution provided by ShenZhen Unity Drive Innovation Technology has become the main force of logistics in an epidemic area in Shandong. During the epidemic period, Unity ’s unmanned logistics vehicle "Kwafu" can undertake the task of material and material transportation between the logistics warehouse and the ward, the supermarket, and the community.

Hanma, an unmanned delivery vehicle from xing shen tech, has been operating since the beginning of the second day of the year, taking on delivery tasks within the area of Xiantao City Government and its affiliated units. Hanma is a self-driving car tailored specifically for China Post by Xingshen Intelligent. It was previously put into operation in Xiantao last August.

AI

What kind of help can artificial intelligence play in this all-out epidemic stagnation battle?

·      Outbreak Warning

According to the public information traceability, on December 31, Canada's health monitoring platform has sent out the news to its customers. An influenza outbreak in China notified by the World Health Organization on January 9 (a series of pneumonia cases were reported in Wuhan, possibly caused by street vendors' contact with live animals at the South China seafood market), and US disease control on January 6 And the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The hero behind it is digital health company BlueDot, which provides AI-driven algorithms that can search foreign language news reports, animal and plant disease networks, and official announcements to issue early warnings to its customers. It is understood that BlueDot combines AI, big data and epidemiology to establish an early warning system. By using natural language processing and machine learning for training, automated data screening can be done, and epidemiologists can then analyze the conclusions before sending reports to government, business, and public health customers. According to reports, access to global air ticket data can help predict the next whereabouts and time of infected residents-it predicts that the virus will jump from Wuhan to Bangkok, Seoul, Taipei, and Tokyo within days of its first appearance.

It is the first contribution of AI to the epidemic, and to some extent has promoted the openness of global information disclosure.

·      Genomic Testing

Recently, the Zhejiang Center for Disease Control and Prevention launched an automated whole-genome detection and analysis platform. Using the AI algorithm developed by the Ali Dharma Institute, the original hours of genetic analysis of suspected cases can be shortened to half an hour.

Person in charge of Alibaba said, "It can be understood that the analysis and comparison of whole gene sequences will generate a large amount of data and require a lot of calculations. The essence of shortening time is to optimize algorithms to improve computing efficiency and analysis capabilities." This distributed design is not the same as blockchain technology, but is similar to cloud computing.

At present, the national epidemic of COVID-19 is still severe, and rapid and accurate diagnosis is particularly important for epidemic control. Public information shows that the virus is one of the viruses with the longest genome sequence, with a full genome sequence of 29,847 bp. Clinical diagnosis requires comparison of patient samples with the viral gene sequence to determine the diagnosis.

Nucleic acid detection methods are now commonly used in hospitals, which can only detect parts of viral genes. Due to the possibility of mutations in the virus, this detection method is like a blind eye to the entire gene sequence. Once the virus mutates, it may miss detection.

The whole-genome detection and analysis platform in Zhejiang was jointly developed by the Zhejiang Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the medical AI team of Ali Dharma Hospital, and Matrix Biotechnology. This platform uses a whole-genome detection technology that is different from the nucleic acid detection method. It performs whole-genome sequence analysis and comparison of virus samples in suspected cases, which can effectively prevent missed detection caused by virus mutations and reduce the whole-genome analysis process that would take hours In half an hour, the speed and accuracy of the diagnosis of suspected cases will be greatly improved.

·      Face recognition + Temperature Measurement

Face recognition technology also plays its due role in this battle. The infrared intelligent body temperature detection system of Wuhan Huazhong Numerical Control Co., Ltd. (HNC) has face recognition function, which is convenient for the detection staff to quickly identify fever patients. Some communities have begun to use face recognition and access control systems for identification, which can prevent outsiders from entering at will and reduce the risk of infection in the community

Of course, the sudden outbreak of the new crown virus also sounded a wake-up call, virus prevention may be a protracted battle. Some companies have planned to launch a normalized face recognition + temperature measurement and epidemic prevention system, which can automatically perform face recognition for each person entering and exiting, synchronously collect body temperature, and store it in association, monitor and summarize 24 hours a day. Once the body temperature exceeds the preset value, an alarm will be issued automatically, which is suitable for normalized epidemic prevention and control in closed area.

Summing up

On the whole the epidemic prevention and control work is a systematic work at the level of a social organization, and although the technology itself can play a certain role, it is still very limited; in fact, in addition to the above technologies, virus extraction, vaccine development, and disease treatment such as drug testing is more important in the follow-up response to the development of the epidemic.

From a certain point of view, this is a very big challenge of virus fighting to human society and it is a very great chances for optoelectronic technologies for protecting us and making our life better. More than normal demands on optoelectronics materials, components and applications are already emerged in China for the 2020.
