On September 6-8, the 24th CIOE was grandly held with an exhibition areas exceeding 240,000 square meters for the first time, an increase of 50% compared to the previous edition. The number of visitors has exceeded 100,000 for the first time and reached 180,000 visits. Over 80 theme forums and more than 60 keynote speeches were held at CIOE 2023 concurrently.
In early 2023, the Asia Photonics Expo (APE) project, the first overseas self-organized expo created by CIOE team, was officially kicked off, and a press conference was held during CIOE 2023. This event will be held in Singapore from March 6-8,2024.
Affected by the epidemic, the 24th CIOE has been postponed to September 6-8,2023.
At the beginning of 2021, CIOE launched a new LOGO and VI design, which was well received by the industry. The challenge of the epidemic on the exhibition industry is continuing. Affected by the epidemic, CIOE was adjusted from September 1-3 to September 16-18 and was held successfully with all figures reached a new high. The 2021 Chinese Optical Society academic conference was held concurrently with the exhibition, and the “CIOE Award" was held for the first time.
China International Optoelectronic Expo was moved to Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center, and the exhibition space was increased to 160,000 square meters. Even under the challenges of epidemic and relocation, the data of exhibitors, visitors and activities of CIOE hit a new record. Shenzhen UBM Herong Exhibition Co., Ltd, the organizer of CIOE, was elected as the seventh chairman unit of Shenzhen Optics and Optoelectronics Industry Association. Yang Xiancheng, the Executive Chairman of CIOE, served as the chairman. The project of “CIOE Award", which was adopted by the expert group and special meeting established by CIOE, was launched.
At the 21st China International Optoelectronic Exposition, the 7 research institutes under the Chinese Academy of Sciences showcased the core science and technology, and 8 international pavilions showcased international optoelectronic technologies. Meanwhile, the “Optoelectronic+” conferences focused the discussion on 9 major application fields.
In 2018, China International Optoelectronic Expo celebrated its 20th anniversary and held the award ceremony of “Preeminent Leader Award” and “Outstanding Contribution Award” during the exhibition to appreciate the support from the industry in the past 20 years.
In 2017, Civil-Military Integration Conference was co-organized by CIOE organizing committee and China Association for Science and Technology on the 19th CIOE in 2017. This event enabled and helped with optoelectronic companies to be sourced by military agencies.
China's first Photonics Innovation Pavilion made its debut to the world on the 18th CIOE in 2016, attracting 1 optoelectronics national laboratory, 7 optoelectronics research institutes, 10+ key colleagues and universities and 100 + startups companies to exhibit their latest research results and technologies.
The 16th CIOE was held in Shenzhen Conference & Exhibition Center in 2014. The project "China Smart City Innovative Industry Conference" was first launched at the CIOE to fully display solutions to the application of key technologies like cloud computing, big data, internet of things and mobile internet in smart cities as well as the innovative scientific research achievements, which drew close attention from the fields concerned.
The Organizing committee of the 17th CIOE and UBM Asia reached a strategic cooperation, laying an important foundation for CIOE's overseas expansion.
The organizing committee of CIOE published a documentary album for the 15th anniversary of CIOE—The Mark of Optics, for the purpose of looking back upon the important moments and extraordinary developmental history of CIOE in the past 15 years.
During the 15th CIOE held in 2013, the organizing committee launched the first micro-film about exhibitions in the world-- The Mark of Optics, which is themed with "China's optical exposition in 4 minutes". The micro-film successfully showcased the brand image of CIOE with humorous, fashionable and dynamic elements.
The 15th CIOE was successfully held. All exhibition halls in Shenzhen Conference & Exhibition Center were utilized, with the total exhibition area reaching 115000 square meters, a new record in history. Awards like "Preeminent Leader Award" and "Outstanding Contribution Award" were presented during the exhibition to reward and commend organizations and fellow traders that have made important contribution to CIOE and the progress in optoelectronics in the past 15 years.
During the 15th CIOE held in 2013, the organizing committee launched a mascot named Optobaby (Optoelectronic Superman) which has bright yellow as the main color with multiple optoelectronic elements, meaning that CIOE symbolizes the bright future and leading position in this industry.
The organizing committee of CIOE initiated a one-year event titled "CIOE China Optoelectronic Journey", which planned to visit nationwide places of concentrated optoelectronic industry and foreign optoelectronic organizations. This move was praised by the media as "The Third Long March" of CIOE that followed the two large-scale tour visits of the industry in 2003 and 2009.
The organizing committee of CIOE decided to change the time of the 15th CIOE to September 4 to 7, 2013. This is the first time in the past 15 years that the time of CIOE was changed from the original September 6 to 9.
The 14th CIOE was successfully held in Shenzhen Conference & Exhibition Center. New records were set in terms of exhibition scale, number of exhibitors and audience, and rounds of forums, etc. The activities held during the period such as purchaser conference and press conference of new technologies and products were actively attended and praised by enterprises.
Mu Guoguang, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, former principal of Nankai University, director-general of China Optics Association, and honorary chairman of CIOE, passed away in Beijing due to disease.
2011 Academic Conference of China Optics Association was first held in Shenzhen together with the 13th CIOE. Cooperation of the most authoritative high-grade academic conference with the largest and the most influential event in the industry has become the important force that drives the progress in domestic and international optoelectronic development.
The 13th CIOE was successfully held in Shenzhen Conference & Exhibition Center. China International Optoelectronic Summit was held in the same period. New records were set in the 13th CIOE in terms of total exhibition scale, number of exhibitors and number of professional audience, etc.
Wang Daheng, founder of Chinese optoelectronic industry, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering, and honorary lifetime chairman of CIOE, passed away in Beijing due to disease at the age of 96.
The main organizer of CIOE was renamed "Shenzhen Herong Global Resources Exhibition Co., Ltd.".
The 12th CIOE was successfully held, with the exhibition area exceeding 80000 square meters. 2527 enterprises from 12 countries and regions attended the exposition as exhibitors. 65318 professional audiences from 57 countries and regions visited the exhibition site.
eMedia Asia Ltd., which is affiliated to Global Resources, became an international partner of CIOE, which comprehensively explores CIOE's overseas business and promotion and help CIOE genuinely establish itself as a world-famous exhibition brand.
The 11th CIOE was successfully held. Although under the impact of financial storm, the exhibition area still reached 70000 square meters. Also, CIOE worked with National Office for Science and Technology awards under Ministry of Science and Technology to hold "National Technological Achievements (Optoelectronics) Exposition". Meanwhile, CIOE independently organized professional forums in LED, applied optics and other optoelectronic fields as well as China Optoelectronic Investment Conference, etc.
Before and after the Spring Festival, the management team of CIOE led the staff to begin the second large-scale visit tour since the foundation of CIOE. They spent one month to visit 251 optoelectronic institutions and manufacturing enterprises in Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta, to understand the impact of financial storm on the industry and the enterprises' needs. This move was praised as "The Second Long March" by the industry.
A large-scale celebrating evening party for the 10th anniversary of CIOE was held during the 10th CIOE to present "Special Contribution Award" at the 10th anniversary of CIOE and other awards to enterprises which had contributed to the development and expansion of CIOE.
The exhibition area in the 9th CIOE set a new record in the history, totaling 65000 square meters. Over 60000 professional audiences were received during the four days.
The main organizer of CIOE—Shenzhen Herong Exhibition Industrial Co., Ltd. established cooperative relation with BMC (a commercial media group in Germany), which vigorously promoted the progress of CIOE's international expansion.

The 7th CIOE was held in the newly-built Shenzhen Conference & Exhibition Center. It introduced international participants-- Cologne Exposition and Krause Exposition and arranged an international exhibition zone that covered over 10000 square meters for the first time. Exhibitors from America, France, England, Canada, South Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan and other countries and regions attended CIOE in groups. The exhibition area exceeded 60000 square meters for the first time.
During the 6th CIOE, the 30th ECOE was held in Sweden. CIOE originated real-time connection of global expositions to broadcast live exhibitors, audience and media interaction with ECOE. Canada Hi-tech Association and KAPID organized over 10 enterprises in their countries to attend CIOE for the first time. As one of the ICT Week activities organized by China and England, "The UK Display Technology Experts Forum" was held together with CIOE and other forums.
The exhibition area in the 5th CIOE reached 50000 square meters, a substantial increase over last year. CIOE first replaced OFC as the largest optoelectronic exposition in the world and has maintained the leading place until now.
The management team of CIOE led the staff to carry out the first large-scale visit tour since the foundation of CIOE. They visited nearly 100 optoelectronic enterprises across China to understand the recovery and development of the industry after the bust of bubbles in IT industry and went to the production lines to understand enterprises' demands and outlook of the industry.
OFC2003 was held in Atlanta. Commissioned by OFC, CIOE and Shenzhen Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau jointly organized an optoelectronic enterprises' delegation in Shenzhen to attend OFC2003 in America. Su Jihong, professor and executive vice chairman of CIOE (the incumbent honorary chairman of CIOE) delivered a special report at "2003 CHINA FORUM".
With the exhibition area exceeding 30000 square meters, the 4th CIOE replaced FOE as the largest optoelectronic exposition in Asia. Financial Transaction Exhibition Zone was first set up in CIOE, so that banks, insurance companies and securities companies, etc. could provide financial service for enterprises at the exhibition site. "2002 China International Optoelectronic Industry Forum" was held in the same period.
The exhibition area in the 3rd CIOE reached 10000 square meters for the first time. Over ten Japanese companies and more than 30 domestic optoelectronic research institutes and academies attended the exposition. "21st Century China Optoelectronic Industry Forum" was held at the same time.
Feitong Optoelectronics, Guangju Technology, Chutian Laser, Huagong Laser, Dazu Laser, Zhong Guang Xue Group, Yudi Optics, Huaqiang Sanyang, Guangdong Optical Valley, Wuhan Optical Valley as well as some hi-tech development zones, optoelectronic industrial parks, optoelectronic research academies (institutes), research & development centers and scientific research colleges/universities, etc. attended the 2nd CIOE. "21st Century (Shenzhen) Optics and Optoelectronics Development Strategy Forum" was held in the same period as the largest optoelectronic forum in this industry at that time.
The 2nd CIOE was successfully held.
With Wang Daheng (academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering who was known as "Chinese Optoelectronic Authority") as the honorary lifetime chairman, CIOE was opened in Shenzhen Hi-tech Fair Exhibition Center as the first professional exposition in Chinese optoelectronic industry. It drew close attention from the optoelectronic industry.
